Housing Works Initiative (HWI) (Care Plus NJ)

Housing Works Initiative (HWI) works with Bergen County residents, who are currently homeless and maintaining temporary shelter placement at the Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center. 

Individuals are provided recovery-oriented support services in an effort to achieve and maintain independent community living.  Case Management services are provided to prepare shelter guests for transition to scattered site apartments and linking them to community resources, in order to assist in sustaining their permanent housing placement.

Program Goal: To secure and maintain permanent housing placements for individuals who are currently homeless. To provide linkage to community resources that assist in stabilization of their living arrangements and  long-term self-sufficiency. 
 
Specialized Services:

  • Case management services that assist with housing search, landlord negotiations, accessing resources to assist with security deposits and furnishing the home, moving in and ongoing advocacy with the landlord.
     
  • Enhancing independent living skills and activities through coordination of community-based services.
     
  • Advocacy in securing and maintaining housing vouchers.
     
  • Participants will receive assistance with benefits and financial management.
