Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Bergen County Board of Social Services WFNJ provides temporary cash assistance and many other support services to families through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)program.
TANF can help families with:
- Cash assistance
- Short-term housing support
- Childcare
- Job search and Readiness
Transportation can be a barrier for work. The TANF Trans Wrap program can also help you pay for:
- car repairs
- license restoration
- insurance
- child bus passes
- driving lessons
- child car seats/booster seats

Do you need money for: Car Repairs, Car Insurance, Driving Lessons, and/or Driver License Restoration? Assistance may be available!
Who: Former TANF clients, who need help getting to their jobs (transportation), AND:
- Whose TANF case has been closed, within the last 24 months, AND
- Who are employed at least 20 hours/week, at or above minimum wage.

County welfare agency who determines eligibility for government assistance programs including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), General Assistance, Emergency Housing assistance (EA), SNAP (Food Stamps) and multiple Medicaid programs.
Applications for our programs can be found on MyNJHelps.gov or by calling or visiting our agency between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
