Transition Professionals

We assist persons coming home from jail or prison with any services and access to benefits they need. When you or someone you love needs a referral to the shelter, mental health organization or is in need of a resume and job search assistance please contact us. On site we have Certified Alcohol and Drug Counseling, NA meetings, a clothing closet and case managers to help someone successfully transition from incarceration back to their community.

Pre-Release Services:

  • Bergen County Jail: Transition Professionals operates an on-site jail transition center at the Bergen County Jail to assess and aide individuals for transition into the community. We identify barriers inmates will face upon their release and work with many different partner agencies to secure services before release. 
  • Daily support to the Inmate Advocate Office
  • Weekly Mental Health group sessions
  • Daily Teaching Assistants who work with in-house teaching staff
  • Weekend Women's Group
  • Weekly Employment Readiness meetings 
  • Weekly Transition Center for inmates within 90 days of release
  • Skills Training – OSHA 
  • Weekly Art Therapy 
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (Vivitrol case management)

Post-Release Services:

  • Drug and Alcohol Counseling from certified counselors
  • Individual Counseling Sessions with licensed mental health counselors
  • Referrals to the Bergen County Homeless Shelter
  • Resume Writing and Job Search services
  • Financial Literacy programs
  • Enrollment in Medicaid, Food Stamps, General Assistance/TANF
  • "Fresh Start Backpacks" filled with basic life essentials for our clients
  • Household Goods available for clients moving into their own home 
  • Free clothing for men and women
  • Support for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated veterans
  • Family Reunification assistance 
  • Referrals to faith-based, religious, and spiritual organizations
  • Peer Recovery Coaches

Additional On-Site Services:

  • Communication Support Group Meetings for families with loved ones in the criminal justice system on Wednesdays from 8-10 pm
  • Weekly Narcotics Anonymous Meetings on Sundays at 2 pm
  • Adult Chess Club on Thursdays at 3 pm
  • Breakfast with Benny: an interactive empowerment and wellness seminar hosted by Benny Kimmel on Sundays at 9:45 am
