Bergen County's Alternatives to Domestic Violence (ADV) operates a 24-hour Confidential Crisis Hotline that offers free emotional support and crisis response services to all persons who may be struggling with abuse or unhealthy dynamics in their relationships. The hotline provides callers with:

  • Education about domestic violence and the warning signs of abuse
  • Personalized assistance with safety plans
  • Access to ADV's Survivor Services, such as counseling, legal assistance, and housing assistance
  • Information and referrals to survivor services and supports in the community.

We are here to support callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. To get support now, call 201-336-7575.

What will happen when I call the hotline?
During ADV's business hours, your call will ring and you will be connected to a skilled, trained crisis specialist. If the call is not answered right away, it may mean that our specialists are assisting other individuals in crisis-- please remain on the line as our call center will connect you with an available operator momentarily. This person will make sure that it is safe to speak with you at this time and will listen to you to better understand how to support you.

Outside of ADV's business hours, you may hear an automated message featuring a menu of options. Please select the crisis option to speak with a skilled, trained crisis specialist.

Our commitment to inclusion and equity
ADV welcomes everyone –and we open our doors to individuals who reach out to us from different cultures, race and ethnicities, from a variety of religious backgrounds, folks with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, folks with hidden or visible disabilities.
