Level 1 Autism Services (West Bergen Mental Healthcare)

West Bergen Mental Healthcare’s Level 1 Autism Services Program provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger’s), Social Pragmatic Disorder, Non-verbal Learning Disability and other disorders involving social communication. The hallmark feature of our program is the Therapeutic Social Skills groups for children, adolescents, and adults.  Clients are grouped based on age and meet on a weekly basis, for one hour per week. Groups are held in the afternoon/evening hours Monday-Thursday and on Saturday mornings. Children and teen groups occur in our 1 Cherry Lane Ramsey location while adults are typically seen in our 120 Chestnut Street Ridgewood office.

In the Therapeutic Social Skills groups, the group leader implements the plan for module topic for each group session, while group aide that provide clinical intervention and support for the client through prompting, redirection, and positive reinforcement. Group modules include: Nonverbal Communication, Conversation skills, Relationships, Coping Techniques, Perspective Taking, and many more.  Feedback is provided to parents during the last 10 minutes of each child and teen group session, which is an important process for conveying important information between the treatment team and parent.
