Center for Modern Dance Education

The Center for Modern Dance Education (CMDE) is a non-profit community arts organization with the mission to promote modern dance and related art forms and make it available to everyone while serving as a resource for the professional dance community.

The Center believes that dance if for everyone, including individuals with disabilities, youth at risk, older adults, and people of all income levels. CMDE is a member of Dance New Jersey and the National Guild of Community Arts Education. CMDE is a current recipient of a Citation of Excellence from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

CMDE runs Moving Experience classes for students with developmental disabilities, and people with developmental disabilities can also take regular classes, as appropriate to their skill and experience level.  It is qualified for DDD funding for adults with disabilities.

CMDE’s philosophy of inclusion also extends to older adults, adult beginners, and other “non-traditional” dance students. We have dancers of all ages, sizes, and ability levels, and can assist you in finding a class suitable to your individual needs.
