May is National Foster Care Month 2017: Empowering Caregivers, Strengthening Families

This year, the theme for National Foster Care Month (NFCM) 2017 is "Empowering Caregivers, Strengthening Families," which highlights the importance of engaging foster parents and kinship families as part of an overall diligent recruitment strategy. The NFCM 2017 website provides information for foster parents and kinship caregivers on parenting children in foster care, outlines ideas for working together with the permanency team, and provides links for nationwide support.

This section includes resources such as:

  • Welcoming a Foster Child Into Your Home
  • Create a Great Relationship With Your Foster Child's Caseworker
  • Raising Children Again
  • Kinship Caregivers and the Child Welfare System

There are also resources for helping parents and youth learn more about foster care, including what to expect and tips for building healthy, positive relationships with their caseworkers. View our collection of real-life stories that provide first-person accounts of making successful connections.
