NAMI Greater Bergen (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots organization for people with mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, we offer help and hope and work to build better lives by providing support, education and advocacy through NAMI, NAMI State Organizations our local Bergen County Affiliate.

We are the Bergen County, NJ Affiliate of The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Bergen is dedicated to helping you find professional mental health services and resources to promote recovery and stability. 

We know our mental health system is hard to navigate and we want to help you find the right resources.  Our priority is also to preserve and strengthen family relationships challenged by mental illness. 

In partnership with Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS), we run
WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUPS: Members of families coping with mental illness meet together with a mental health professional for mutual support and information exchange. For more info and to begin participation contact Lara Zucker Program Coordinator at 201.646.0333

Family to Family educational program for family, significant others and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a free 12 session course. Research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to an individual living with a mental health condition.  Call or email us at 201.935. Meet the Professional Monthly presentations (currently the 3rd Tuesday of the Month at 7pm at Bergen Reg. Medical Center's Auditorium. We feature a Mental Health professional to educate us about relevant interventions, treatment and supports. Our most recent presenters covered DBT therapy, financial planning for families with special needs, crisis support, and living with Bipolar Disorder. Usually this will be posted on BergenResourceNet under events.

Through our peer-facilitated education classes, support group meetings, and community outreach initiatives, NAMI programs and services draw on the experiences of mental health consumers and their family members
