Community Living Education Project (Rutgers School of Public Health)

Since 1991, the Community Living Education Project (CLEP) has been committed to providing information and education regarding community living resources for people with intellectual /developmental disabilities (I/DD) living in New Jersey.

CLEP fulfills its Mission by:

  • Highlighting the possibilities in community living through learning events, family meetings, and print and digital media;
  • Sharing stories of individuals who have moved to a community setting;
  • Accompanying individuals and families on visits to varied residential options
  • Highlighting the many services and supports in the community

Our Values

  • Person-Centered Planning – CLEP believes all activities and coordination of community living should be explored based on what is important TO and FOR the individual
  • Self-Advocacy for individuals with I/DD – CLEP is committed to supporting individuals as they advocate for their personal hopes and dreams
  • Collaboration - CLEP prioritizes open communication and collaboration between individuals, families, providers, and staff
  • Sharing Possibilities – CLEP is committed to showing that anyone can live in the community with the proper supports and services centered around the individual’s needs
  • Education – CLEP is dedicated to educating policymakers, community leaders, disability-focused professionals, and the general public with factual information about community living, supports, and services.
