Bergen County Juvenile Fire Prevention Program (Care Plus NJ)

The Bergen County Juvenile Fire Prevention Program (BCJFPP) is an early intervention program for youth up to the age of 18 displaying recurring interest and/or engagement in firesetting behavior. The goal of the program is to reduce the overall problem of firesetting by working with juvenile firesetters to identify underlying issues and provide intervention to minimize firesetting behaviors.

The BCJFPP team will:

  • Categorize the risk of future firesetting using self-report inventories.
  • Provide fire safety education to learn the proper uses of fire and its associated dangers.
  • Provide counseling services to address individual or family needs that may contribute to firesetting behaviors.
  • Provide referrals for further treatment.
Eligibility All services for youth 18 years and under that reside in Bergen County are of no cost to the family. Please see attached FAST tool (FLYER) to help assess if a youth should be referred to the BCJFPP.
