Bergen County's Alternatives to Domestic Violence (ADV) provides critical non-residential support services to Bergen County residents impacted by domestic violence in their relationships, including prevention education, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, trauma-informed counseling programs, and coordinated community responses to violence.

OUR MISSION:
For over 42 years ADV’s team of dedicated professionals have sought to partner with individuals and groups to prevent and eliminate domestic violence, dating abuse, and other forms of intimate partner violence, through comprehensive service approaches that strategically address the multifaceted causes and effects of abuse in diverse communities, such as prevention education, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, evidence-based counseling programs, and coordinated community responses to violence.

24/7 Confidential Crisis Hotline - 201-336-7575:
In need of someone to talk to right now? Our hotline is a free, confidential, 24-hour emotional support and crisis response service for all persons who may be struggling with abuse or unhealthy dynamics in their relationships. Our trained crisis specialists provide callers with quickly accessible information about the warning signs of abuse, how to develop safety plans, and how to access a broad range of services and supports in the community.
Emergency Housing & Relocation Assistance
In need of emergency supports to help you find safe housing, relocate, or navigate community housing programs? ADV advocates can assist you in navigating emergency shelter options, public assistance programs, and other community resources in addition to helping advocate for clients applying for social services. Survivor Services Programs
In need of a safety plan, emotional support, or counseling services to help someone recover from an abusive relationship? ADV's Survivor Services Program provides clients with a variety of pathways to safety and healing all facilitated by skilled, trained counselors and therapists. Free services to support survivors of abuse include:
- Walk-in Services for those needing immediate support and orientation
- Crisis Intervention & Emotional Support Services (ESS) for one-on-one crisis stabilization and targeted support towards short-term goals
- Welcome Groups for hassle-free introductions to community supports and education on abuse dynamics
- Group & Individual Therapy for Survivors of Domestic Violence for those desiring safe spaces to process lived experiences of abuse and to foster opportunities for healing and adaptation

Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)
In need of a safe space to explore what it means to have healthy relationships with other teens and young adults like you? ADV's Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) were specially designed to help teens and young adults ages 14-21 years gain confidence and support in the shaping of their relationships with partners, friends, and family members. We're also here to support anyone who feels stuck or confused on how to handle relationship issues or recover from any harm. This includes free and confidential services:
- Healthy Relationships for Teens (HRTs) Groups for those needing safe spaces to explore relationship issues and practice positive skills to defuse, interrupt, or recover from negative relationship experiences.
- Individual Therapy for Teens & Young Adults for those needing one-on-one therapeutic support to process lived experiences of abuse and to foster opportunities for healing, adaptation, and community-building.
-Healthy Relationship Consultation Services for those wanting to ask any burning questions about relationship issues or to receive education on how to gain support for yourself or for a loved one from our trained educators.

Legal Assistance & Advocacy
In need of legal education about restraining orders and other legal remedies for survivors of abuse? ADV's trained legal advocate team assist survivors with free services and information to help them with:
- Court Preparation for Temporary/Final Restraining Order court appearances
- Court Accompaniment for plaintiffs seeking Temporary/Final Restraining Orders
- Domestic Violence Legal Advocacy Project (DVLAP) supports eligible applicants seeking pro bono legal representation.

Prevention Through Education (PTE)
In need of education about abuse dynamics and positive bystander intervention strategies for your workplace, classrooms, or organizations? ADV's team of community educators provide free educational workshops and programming about domestic violence and dating abuse, which includes:
- Educational Workshops for Middle School, High School , and College Students
- 40-Hour Training Program for Domestic Violence Victim Advocates
- Professional Trainings for Educators, Administrators, Law Enforcement, & Other Helping Professionals
- Community Education & Outreach Activities
- Healthy Relationship Consultation Services

Center for Hope and Safety
Center for Hope and Safety (formerly Shelter Our Sisters) is dedicated to assisting victims, and their children, of domestic violence by turning fear into safety, helplessness into strength, and isolation into hope. The PALS (PEACE: A Learned Solution) provides services for children exposed to domestic violence. There is also a 24 hour hotline.
New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence (NJCEDV)
The mission of the New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence is to lead collaborative community and systemic responses to domestic violence by providing public awareness, training, advocacy, policy development, technical assistance and supportive services.
