The suicide rate among youth has increased significantly over the past two decades. Mental health concerns increased since the COVID 2019 pandemic. Overall, the percentage of youth screening positive for moderate to severe depressive symptoms increased about 24% according to an article published in AAP publications Sept 2021.
Depression and suicidal behavior remain a clinical challenge for professionals. Learning practical state of the art, empirically supported clinical screening tools, assessment needs and treatment options on how to prevent or manage suicidal behavior is extremely important to reduce risk.
This workshop will review popular screening tools, the essential components of risk assessment and how to help youth struggling with suicidal thoughts/behaviors. Participants will also learn helpful treatment options as well as given the opportunity to participate in a relevant case review.
