Bergen Volunteers

Bergen Volunteers turns caring into meaningful action by engaging volunteers to meet community needs.   Programs include:

  • Mentoring Youth (Mentor program for adolescent youth between 12-21, priority for foster care youth in out-of-home placements)
  • Mentoring Moms and Dads (Mentors for moms, dads, expecting moms and grandparents who could use some more support)
  • CHORE (volunteers offer senior home owners minor home repairs)
  • CHEER (Provides seniors with a weekly grocery shopper)
  • VITA (provides free tax preparation to low-income families and individuals)
  • Making-It-Home (collects gently used furniture for formerly homeless families in need) 
  • Redefining Retirement (Volunteer Liaisons connect retirees to volunteer opportunities that fit their availability, skills, and interests)
  • Bergen Reads (trains Reading Buddies to work one on one with students in grades K-4)
  • Campership Fund (Provides day camp scholarships to children age 3-12 living in lower income Bergen County working families)
  • Bergen LEADS (a 10 month civic leadership program for adults who live or work in Bergen County)
